New Colors For 2009

Fashion week provides a great preview of the colors which will be hot in  the clothing and in house interiors.  The hues you see in the runway models are predictors of the colors which will soon be seen in wall paints, furnishings, and other home fashions, from placemats to towels.  So if you want to know the colors which top builders and interior decorators  will be working with later this year, see the Top Ten Hues in the Pantone Fashion Color Report, Fall 2009.

For Fall 2009 the Pantone color of the year is ‘Mimosa’ (PANTONE color 14-0848), a warm , engaging yellow.  According to Pantone, in this economic uncertainty and political change, optimism is paramount and no other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow.

Redesign: High Style Low Cost

High Style Low Cost
In today’s wallet crunching times, how do you decorate on a budget?

-Rearrange It
Reprogram the way you look at a piece of furniture – move things from room to room, or separate furniture sets or pairs of chairs. Dust off old china and accessories you have hidden away, and see how they look displayed on a mantel or bookshelf.

-In The Clear
Get creative with the basics. Clear glass vases can hold more than just flowers. Wide-mouthed vases an be filled with fruit for a colorful display. Or use one in the kitchen as a utensil holder. Canisters can also be repurposed. Fill clear canisters with items that fit the current season’s theme (pine cones or vintage valentines for February).

-Keep Your Eyes Open
I scour consignment stores for great accessories, small furniture pieces, and vases. People are getting rid of whatever they don’t need, and consignment stores field some great finds.
